Bobby Frankel Remembered by His Friends (11/14/09)
On November 14, 2009, Bobby Frankel lost his battle with cancer. As someone who has grown to love thoroughbred racing and revere its’ history, becoming a friend of Frankel’s has been one of the privileges I’ve been afforded as part of the game’s media. It’s rare that a fan gets to become friendly with a legend of a sport, but one of racing’s unique advantages is that you have that opportunity if you pursue it. Being able to say Bobby Frankel used to come sit with me at the Barbecue at Saratoga, and that I made pastrami sandwiches for him, will be something I’ll treasure. And I think he would have enjoyed the lineup of his friends that came together hours after he passed for At the Races’ Bobby Frankel Appreciation Show. It’s 3 hours of which I’m very proud.
